Chairman of the Board
Hazem Barakat co-founded BPE Partners in 2006 with a vision to capitalize on his industry and operational expertise by investing in domestic businesses with growth potential. He is the chairman of BPE Partners and B Investments and is a member of BPE Partners’ investment committee. Additionally, Mr. Barakat is the non-executive chairman of Madinet Masr and sits on the boards of Al-Ismaelia, Basata E-Payments, Basata Finance, B Healthcare Investments, The Egyptian IVF Center, and Daikin Egypt. Prior to founding BPE Partners, he co-founded Miraco-Carrier, one of the region’s leading air conditioner manufacturers, as well as Engineering Plastic Manufacturing, a leading plastics manufacturer.
Mr. Barakat holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the New York Institute of Technology and is a member of the Egypt-based American Chamber of Commerce, the British Egyptian Business Association, and the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association. Previous directorships include the Egypt-US President’s Council, the Egyptian Economic Forum, and the Advisory Council of the School of Business, Economics, and Communication at the American University in Cairo.

Aladdin Saba founded Beltone Financial in 2002 and co-founded BPE Partners in 2006. Mr. Saba was also a co-founder of Hermes Financial, which became EFG Hermes in 1996, after working as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Kidder, Peabody & Co. Inc. in New York. He is a founding member of the Egyptian Investment Management Association and the Egyptian Capital Markets Association. Mr. Saba is the chairman of Basata E-Payments and Basata Finance and sits on the boards of B Investments and Madinet Masr. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Egypt, the Egyptian Exchange, and GB Auto. Mr. Saba holds a Bsc in Biomedical Engineering from Cairo University, an MBA from Wharton, and an additional Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Abdel-Monem Omran joined BPE Partners in 2006 after holding various positions at Douwe Egberts, Industrial Bank of Kuwait, and Helarb Management, Switzerland, an investment management firm concentrating on M&A in Europe. He previously founded an advisory firm, Egivest Consulting, to manage one of the first private equity funds in Egypt (Arab Investment Company). Dr. Omran is a founding member and board member of the Egyptian Private Equity Association. Dr. Omran holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Cairo University and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of California.

Mr. Ashraf Shash is the head of Direct Investment at the CIB where he has worked since 1990. Mr. Shash has vast experience in private equity, corporate finance, asset and financial restructuring risk, credit appraisal and project finance. He brings more than 27 years of experience in various fields, mainly correspondent banking, corporate banking, investment banking, strategic planning and investor relations. During his work at CIB, Mr. Shash was involved in and has structured a number of significant privatization, corporate finance, and M&A deals. He was also responsible for various strategic initiatives within the bank, including but not limited to, the newly launched Venture Capital initiative. He is currently a member of CIB’s Affiliates Committee, overlooking all strategic decisions pertaining to the bank’s affiliated companies. Mr. Shash has attended courses at prestigious international institutions, including the London Business School and Harvard Business School. He holds a BA in Accounting from Cairo University’s Faculty of Commerce.

Ms. Riham Alghanim is the Deputy Vice President of Fouad Alghanim & Sons General Trading & Contracting Co. and is the Chairwoman of Kuwait Finance & Investment Company. Ms. Alghanim is also a board member at Al-Ghanim International Trading & Contracting and at Kuwait Network Electronic Technology Co. She is also the Director of Riham General Trading & Contacting Co. and was previously manager for Gulf Communication & Electronics Company and Gulf Technology & Electronics System. She holds a BA in English Literature and Diploma in Business Management from Kuwait University.

Mr. Fahad Al-Tamimi is a noted Saudi businessman and founder of Tamimi Investments and Mining Co. and is a senior consultant to the founder and chairman of Saudi Consult where he previously served as CEO and president. He has an extensive track record in diverse fields such as oil and gas, engineering, construction, shipping, trading, real estate, mining, and general investment. Over the last three decades, he has been at the center of a number of significant infrastructure projects in the Middle East across the energy, mining and transportation sectors. He served as the Chairman and Co-owner of Worley Parsons Saudi Arabia, which held a significant market share servicing the engineering sector in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Tamimi has also been Chairman at Kerr Mines Inc. since June 30, 2016. He has a BSc in Chemical Engineering from University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and an MA in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston, Texas.

Mr. Omar Mohanna is the Chairman of Suez Cement Group of Companies (SCGC), the largest cement producer in Egypt. Mr. Mohanna has over 25 years of commercial and investment banking experience with Egyptian and international financial institutions, which has culminated in the position of vice chairman and managing director of Egypt Arab African Bank (EAAB). Mr. Mohanna is also Chairman of the Alexandria Tire Company – Pirelli and Chairman of ACE Insurance Co. Egypt, and chairman of ACE Life Insurance Co. Egypt. Both companies are subsidiaries of the U.S. multinational insurance group ACE. He also held the position of managing director of Accor Hotels Group in Egypt and has been a member of the board of directors of numerous companies. Mr. Mohanna is the Chairman of Egypt-U.S. Business Council (EUSBC) and Chairman of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES). He is a member of a number of business associations, organizations, councils and NGOs.

Mr. John Sanderson has over five decades of experience in the financial services industry. Since 2004, he has been a Board Member of the Beltone Financial Gems Fund while remaining actively involved in US-and European-based investment activities. Mr. Sanderson was actively involved in setting up a London office for Baltimore-based investment firm Legg Mason from 1995-2004 where he built a successful brokerage and asset management business from the ground up. He spent the majority of his career (from 1967-1995) with Kidder Peabody & Co. in several capacities, working his way to Chairman of the European Management Committee and Head of Brokerage for Europe and the Middle East.

Mostafa El-Anwar joined BPE Partners in 2008 after working on a number of high-profile investment banking transactions at Morgan Stanley in London. He was previously Vice President at EFG Hermes Asset Management managing equity, balanced, and fixed income portfolios. Currently, Mr. El-Anwar sits on the boards of B Investments, Madinet Masr, Gourmet, B Healthcare Investments, The Egyptian IVF Centers, and Tamweel Holding. Mr. El-Anwar holds an MBA from London Business School.

Dr. Ali Dayekh has over 30 years of experience in the construction and construction materials sector. He is the President and CEO of Saudi Group for Construction Materials and a member of the Advisory Board of Gulf Capital, Credit Agricole Bank Egypt, and Modern Industries Company. Previously, Dr. Dayekh served as the Chairman of several companies in the contracting, construction, and glass panels and frames construction industries, including Aleco, Al Riyadh Electricity Company; Silver Window Construction; Saudi Aluminum Factory; Al Arif Contracting Company, Saudi Arabia; and Ali Dayekh Real Estate Development. Dr. Dayekh also founded several successful companies across diverse sectors in the MENA region. He holds a PhD in Philosophy and Management Research from Kensington University in the US and a BA in Business Administration from Richmond University in UK.

Dr. Eskandar Tooma served as executive board member and the Group Chief Financial Officer of Swiss listed Orascom Development Holding. Dr. Tooma sat on the boards of prominent EGX listed companies such as Madinat Masr for Housing and Development (2013-Present), Taaleem Management Services (2021-present), Telecom Egypt “TE” (2015-2017), Egyptian Resorts Company “ERC” (2009-2019), and Vodafone Egypt “VFE” (2015-2019). Furthermore, Dr. Tooma was a senior advisor to the Egyptian Capital Market Authority (from 2005-2007), as well as a member of a variety of committees including the EGX30 Index Committee (2006), Market Advancement Committee at the Egyptian Stock Exchange (2006), and a member of the Derivatives and Commodities Exchange Committee with the Ministry of Investments (2007). Privately, he has advised leading financial institutions including Qalaa Holdings, Beltone Financial Holding, and the Arab African International Bank. Dr. Tooma holds his BA in Business Administration from The American University in Cairo, a Master’s degree in International Economics, a Master’s degrees in Finance and Business Administration from Adelphi University in the United States, and a PhD in global trade from Brandeis University in the United States

Mona Osman joined BPE Partners in 2009 after holding the position of the General Manager for Investments at Al-Ahly for Development and Investment (ADI). Ms. Osman spent 10 years in the Projects Department of Misr Iran Development Bank (MIDB) and is a founding and board member of the Egyptian Private Equity Association (EPEA). Currently, Ms. Osman sits on the boards of B Investments, Madinet Masr, Basata E-Payments, Basata Finance, Basata Microfinance, Tamweel Holding, and Al Ahly Pharos. Ms. Osman holds a BA in Economics from the American University in Cairo.

Mr. Sherif Adly has a wealth of investment experience having established several successful companies in the real estate and construction materials space such as Better Home, Better Mix, and NCC X-Calibur Construction Chemistry. Mr. Adly is also the Chairman of Arabia Cotton Ginning, Chairman of Alexandria Spinning & Weaving Company, and Vice Chairman of El Nasr Clothing and Textiles. Furthermore, Mr. Adly is a Member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and the German-Arab Chamber of Industry & Commerce.

Mr. Onsi Sawiris is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner at HOF Capital with AUM of $200m, where he focuses on cloud-based technologies, fintech and enterprise SaaS. He is also heading investments at Gemini Holding, the Sawiris family office. Mr. Sawiris currently sits on the boards of Drop Technologies, ItaliaOnline, Riverbank, OPTii Solutions and Mach Music. He leads portfolio acceleration at HOF and helps founders secure commercial traction by identifying synergies within the firm’s global investor network of over 70 LPs. Prior to HOF, Mr. Sawiris worked in TMT-focused M&A at Arma Partners, a specialist technology investment bank. Mr. Sawiris holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Mr. Hassan Abdou is an experienced CEO, investor, entrepreneur and mentor with over 30 years of work experience. He began his career in 1991 in project management with ExxonMobil in the US and Europe and later as management consultant at BCG New York. He then went on to be CIO of EFG-Hermes Private Equity as well as running his own PE firm. Mr. Abdou is currently the Executive Chairman of Gemini Holding. In 2011, Mr. Abdou was appointed to the Advisory Board for the Business School of the American University in Cairo and is on the management and advisory boards of various companies and institutions around the world. Mr. Abdou received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the Wharton Business School. He later went on to earn an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
